X23Here is an Interview with Chris Yost, writer and scripter for Marvel's X-Force, Uncanny X-men and DC's Red Robin: Bruce: Chris you started writing scripts for X-men Evolution and have written for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Batman and MTV’s Fantastic Four among many others and are involved in the upcoming Iron Man: Armored Adventures, do you prefer scripting a cartoon or a comic? Chris: Oh, it depends on the project. For the longest time, I enjoyed the process of comic writing more. But then 'Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes' hit, and I'm so in love with that show that I can't wait to write it Comics take a little more thought, because of the medium - some things are easier to do in screenplays, because you're not dealing with these snapshot moments. You're forced to be more economical with movement and create the illusions where need be. .

X-men: EvolutionBruce: You also brought from X-men Evolution one of the most controversial characters of the last decade, X-23. Bringing her from the cartoon to her own mini-series, much like Firestar and Harley Quinn. Joe Quesada used her as a prostitute in the NYX mini-series but you gave us her origin in X-23: Innocence Lost and X-23: Target X, are there more secrets to be told here? Would a third mini-series bridging the gap between Target X and NYX be lurking somewhere? I mean she was freed from possible arrest by Captain America to avoid government exploitation, how does she end up a hooker preying on violent johns? Chris: Craig Kyle, who created her, has a great idea for a third mini-series, which we've even talked about turning into an ongoing. But it's down to a matter of timing, really. But we have answers to all of those questions!

Chris Yost Bruce: Being from the Midwest, How did you end up in Marvel’s West Coast offices? Chris: I came out to Los Angeles from Detroit to get my Masters degree, and knew they had an office out here. So I called them up and asked if they needed interns. And the timing was just right. That was nine years ago. I spent a summer at Marvel Studios, and then finished my degree, but kept in touch with Craig Kyle, who was supervising the X-Men: Evolution show. Which really worked out for me. :)

Uncanny X-men: Emperor VulcanBruce: You also penned the Emperor Vulcan and Kingbreaker story arcs in Uncanny X-men, would you like to pick up on the action in War of Kings or the cosmic story that will spin out of that story? Chris: There's pretty much nothing at Marvel that I wouldn't write. Havok, Polaris and Marvel Girl are some of my favorite characters, so I'd love to be involved with them.

Uncanny X-men: KingbreakerBruce: Are there any other Marvel characters you want to tackle outside of the X-verse? I mean you did Runaways/Young Avengers for the Secret Invasion, is there anyone you want to tackle coming out of Siege? Chris: I've always been a huge Spider-Man fan, so any opportunity I get to write him, I take!

Spider-man?Mutant or Menace?Bruce: Will you also be doing more adaptations such as your work on Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game? Chris: Nope, we just finished the last issue of Ender's, and while it was a great experience, I think that's it for me for now. My animation and X-books are keeping me mighty busy.

Orson Scott Card's Ender's GameBruce: You started the Messiah War in X-force/Cable and are involved in Second Coming, is there going to be a reversal of the Scarlet Witch’s declaration “No more mutants”?

Messiah WarChris: I did work on Messiah War and am involved in Second Coming, and am not going to tell you spoilers, ha ha.

Second ComingBruce: As head hitman of X-Force, your group of wetwork mutants started out pretty strong but are now scattered about the place, the main group is involved in Necrosha, Wolfsbane is pregnant from the Asgardian Wolf Prince, X-23 is missing an arm (why isn’t it growing back together?), along with Second Coming and the influences of Dark Reign, where is our strike-force headed to next? Chris: The arm grew back! X-23 is whole again. The entire team comes together in Necrosha, for the first time, I think. And after that, they go right into Second Coming. But there's still three issues of Necrosha left, and they're BIG.

X-ForceBruce: Shifting companies to DC where you are penning Red Robin, the continuing story to Tim Drake Wayne beginning with his obsession in proving his adoptive father, Bruce Wayne is alive and then working with the League of assassins to defeat the Council of Spiders, after the final battle with Ra’s al Ghul, where are you headed with Tim? Chris: Tim's headed back to Gotham, as Ra's al Ghul just put a hit out on Bruce Wayne's entire existence. But Tim left things a little shaky in Gotham, as we'll see in the Red Robin/Batgirl crossover, starting in Batgirl 8 and heading into Red Robin 10. Bruce: Is there more in store for us from you at DC? Chris: Red Robin's my focus right now.

Red RobinBruce: As you are doing well in both cartoon and comics, are there any other mediums you want to conquer? Live Movies, TV or Novels for instance? Chris: I'm trying to get through Avengers season 2 right now, and after that... who knows? But I don't think I could write a novel. Too many words.
